APPLICATIONS SPECIALIST/OPERATIONS ASSISTANT

I. ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVES:

Aid in providing assistance in developing computer program routines using various programming languages.  Establish unique processes by using utilities and tools available in existing operating system.  Document, maintain, and train users on new application routines developed to meet district requirements. .

III. POSITION RELATIONSHIPS:

Coordinates withComputer Center, district staff
Type of coordination:  As directed by Director of Technology

IV. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Required qualifications:
    • Minimum of Associate Degree in Programming
    • Minimum of 1 years of programming experience
    • Ability to communicate effectively - Unix knowledge
    • Experience with a SQL based database (Informix preferred)
  2. Desired qualifications:
    • Computer Science Degree
    • Experience with 5th generation report writers
    • Two or more years of programming experience
  3. Special requirements of the position: - 
    • Ability to work independently without close supervision within stated procedures and policies. Ability to work in a fast paced environment. - 
    • Assist in analyzing complex issues, evaluate alternative solutions and establish a course of action

V. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as backup in performing Operations
  • Assist with bursting / decollating of special forms
  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions
  • Develop new interfaces to existing systems
  • Analyze, Design, Code, Test and Debug application systems
  • Provide for issue resolution with minimal supervision
  • Design test plans to thoroughly test all enhancements
  • Ability to update technical competency and training on an on-going basis
  • Assist in the development of custom reports, documentation and user manuals
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as needed by Technology Department
  • Thoroughly test all changes and use knowledge of the systems to ensure accuracy of the new code going into production where it will be used by departments and schools
  • Assume ownership of requirements definition and detailed design specifications throughout the project or an enhancement
  • Assist and train other team members on software functionality and technical knowledge as necessary
  • Provide ongoing telephone support to end-users when necessary
  • Design test plans to thoroughly test all enhancements
  • Ensure that testing and conversion are performed within specified standards and that training is provided to the end users full satisfaction
  • Assume other responsibilities and duties as assigned
