I. ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVES:
Assists the library media specialist in coordinating the use of the
building library media center and computers within the center; assists
with the building library media and information technology program under
the direction of the library media specialist and the principal.

III. POSITION RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to: Library Media Specialist, Principal
Coordinates with: Library Media Coordinator, Technology
Coordinator, and teachers.
Type of coordination: Students.
IV. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Required experience or training: high school diploma.
- Desired experience: experience in a library; with Microsoft Office
and other software programs; with computers and other equipment; in
schools.
- Special requirements of the position: Ability to: work well with
students, staff, and parents; work independently; keep detailed,
accurate records; requires good organizational skills and an
orientation to providing service.
V. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Students and Staff
- Handles circulation in the library media center.
- May offer extended service hours.
- Assists students in selecting books to check out, assist
students with finding sources for research questions.
- Assist library media specialist when teaching in the library
media center or computer lab.
- Assists library media specialist with preparing bibliographies
of resources and selecting carts of resources for teachers.
- Information Technology Support
- Assist library media specialist with staff development by
helping participants.
- Assist with word processing, spreadsheets, databases, record
keeping, and photocopying.
- Compile orders of resources selected by the media specialists.
- Assist with web publishing of the library media web page.
- Assist teachers in searching for appropriate Internet sites.
- Email announcements, newsletters, etc.
- Library Automation System
- In-district interlibrary loan: Access Hold Alerts Report in
daily. Gather books to be sent out. Reconcile holds. Package up
resources, label and send in the school mail.
- Check in new items, add to "New Titles" list, apply
book covers, spine labels, and property stamp.
- Check in and maintain periodical collection.
- Check out, check in, inspect, maintain, and repair resources and
equipment, run overdue lists.
- Collects money for fines and copy machines, counts money, fills
out reports.
- Scan barcodes of resources to withdraw into email message and
send to Media Services. Process withdrawn resources for proper
removal.
- Assist library media specialist with inventory of the collection
of resources annually.
- Operational Assistance
- Shelve resources daily.
- Assist library media specialist with training and supervising
volunteers.
- Assist in rearrangement of the library media center and
resources as needed.
- Assist with displays, decorating, dusting, cleaning, watering
plants, etc.
- Assist with audiovisual services such as video recording school
events and educational TV programs, charging batteries, replacing
lamps, etc.
- Collect, distribute, file mail, route periodicals.
- Maintain supply lists; reorder as necessary.
- Perform other duties as directed by the building principal and
administration.
