INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ASSISTANT - MIDDLE SCHOOL

I. ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVES:

Under supervision, to provide a wide range of technological assistance: to troubleshoot and maintain instructional microcomputer systems and networks throughout the building; in coordination with the building Technology Coordinator provides in-service and training to staff. To perform other tasks as directed.

II. POSITION CHARACTERISTICS:

Salary: On schedule
Length of contract:  194 days

III. POSITION RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports to: Building administrator(s), building Technology Coordinator
Coordinates with: Building staff and students
Type of coordination:  As directed by administrator(s), Technology Coordinator or others with coordination responsibilities
Supervises: Students

IV. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Required experience and training: 
    1. demonstrated experience in: 
      • Windows XP 
      • Manipulating and supporting a myriad of application software packages 
      • Developmental use of Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Access 
      • Hardware troubleshooting and resolution 
      • Experience with Web Page Design and FrontPage 
      • User training in a variety of applications 
    2. Associate Degree 
  2. Desired experience and training: 
    1. Educational work experience is preferred 
      • Network user administration 
      • Network systems and workstation configuration 
      • Wiring Infrastructure, switches and routers 
      • Visual and graphic design skills 
  3. Special requirements of the position: 
    1. Ability to work independently without direct supervision within stated procedures and policies. Demonstrated customer service personality. Exemplary oral and written communication skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to work with student/staff in a problem resolution, and mentor role.

V. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Troubleshoot and maintain instructional microcomputers, their peripherals and interfaces
  2. Administration of user, file machine and email accounts for the building
  3. In coordination with the building Technology Coordinator and district Network Administrator supervises and maintains access to the administrative network, student records system, financial system and other systems as they come on-line
  4. Manage and maintain building web page
  5. Provide in-service, training and one-on-one assistance to staff and students on a wide variety of microcomputer hardware and application software
  6. Provide maintenance, service and training for building telephones
  7. Key operator for duplicating equipment
  8. Circulation, operation and maintenance of Media materials, equipment and supplies
    • Set-up, operate and train others on a variety of AV equipment
    • Circulate AV equipment as necessary
      1. Maintain and update reservation system
      2. Deliver equipment to classrooms as necessary
  9. Service AV equipment when necessary
    • Perform minor repairs
    • Remove jams
    • Troubleshoot problems
    • Clean AV equipment
    • Process repair requests
  10. Inventory equipment
  11. Desktop Publishing Duties
    • Graphic Design
    • Presentations
    • Transparency production and instruction, laminating and photography
  12. Instructional Media Center Duties
    • Assist with general circulation
    • Supervise the IMC as needed
    • Supervise students during open computer lab times
  13. Supervision of students as assigned
  14. Recording, duplication and maintain the AV media collection
  15. Perform other tasks as assigned
