LIBRARY ASSISTANT III - (Cataloging and Ordering Assistant)

I. ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVES:

Requires independent work with close coordination with the media coordinator and the other clerical staff.

Length of contract:  194+11

III. POSITION RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports to: Director of Media Services
Coordinates with: Media Department staff
Type of coordination:  As directed by administrator or others with coordination responsibilities

IV. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Desired training and experience: high school diploma, experience with computers.
  2. Special requirements of the position:
    1. Work experience in a library or media center. 
    2. Experience using data management computer programs. 
    3. Experience with batch printing. 
    4. Excellent keyboarding skills. 
    5. Ability to use complex computer programs using MARC (Machine Readable Cataloging) format. 
    6. Ability to manage a large workload. 
    7. Ability to handle detailed record keeping. 
    8. Experience with ordering. 
    9. Experience with computer spreadsheets. 
    10. Experience with electronic mail.

V. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Searches for new or existing main entry for District IMC books and AV and elementary AV materials.
  2. Completes data entry for new and duplicate records.
  3. Prints spine labels and catalog cards as needed.
  4. Loads new bibliographic records onto the library automation system, the District union catalog.
  5. Adds holdings to bibliographic records on the library automation system.
  6. Completes withdrawals from the library automation system.
  7. Enters changes and deletions to statewide database, WISCAT.
  8. Prepares the transfer of bibliographic records to the District IMC automated booking system.
  9. Orders nonprint materials for the District IMC.
  10. Orders nonprint materials for the elementary schools.
  11. Orders all periodicals for all schools.
  12. Orders all library supplies for all schools.
  13. Facilitates interlibrary loan for Central Office staff.
  14. Records all fine money turned in and facilitates refunds for returned books.
  15. Provides leadership to co-workers and assists them with problem-solving.
  16. Manages the daily operation of the library automation system in the absence of the media coordinator.
  17. Performs other tasks as assigned.
