SECONDARY BUILDING TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT SPECIALIST

I. ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVES:

Under supervision, to provide a wide range of technological assistance: to troubleshoot and maintain instructional microcomputer systems, networks, and software throughout the building; in coordination with the district Technology Staff Development provides in-service and training to staff. To perform other tasks as directed.

Length of contract:  12 months

III. POSITION RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports to: Network Manager, Building Principal
Coordinates with: Building Coordinator, Building Principal, District staff
Type of coordination:  As directed by Executive Director of Technology
Supervises: Students
Allocation of time: 80% at secondary school, 20% at district level, as directed by Executive Director of Technology

IV. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Desired Training and experience: 
    • A minimum of 3 years demonstrated experience: 
      • Managing/configuring and maintaining file servers 
      • Network user administration 
      • Network systems and workstation configuration (Microsoft and Apple) TCP/IP, AppleTalk, NetBEui, Wiring Infrastructure, CISCO switches and routers DNS, WINS and POP Database Management Windows NT (Apple O/S - 1 year) 
      • Manipulating and supporting a myriad of application software packages 
      • Developmental use of Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, PowerPoint and Access 
      • Hardware troubleshooting and resolution 
      • Experience with HTML, Web Page Design, FrontPage and IIS 
      • Visual and graphic design skills 
      • User training in a variety of applications 
    • Associate degree in a computer related field or formal industry certification (MCSE< MCP Server, CCNA,A+). Knowledge of network communications theory, network management software, concepts and troubleshooting techniques.
  2. Special Requirements of the Position: 
    • Ability to work independently without direct supervision within stated procedures and policies. Off hours work may be required. Demonstrated customer service personality. Exemplary oral and written communication skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to work with teenagers in a problem resolution, and mentor role.

V. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Network administrator of record for building and resource domain
  2. Manages RAID servers, server performance, tasked to multiple servers within multiple domains
  3. Documents existing system performance and aids in creating security policies and procedures
  4. Works on special projects including software implementation, systems integration, and limited application development
  5. Troubleshoot and maintain instructional microcomputers and their peripherals and interfaces. Troubleshoot and maintain instructional software, including software installation and configuration of new systems
  6. Administers user, file, machine and EMAIL accounts for the building in their sphere of responsibility
  7. Installs all software patches and updates for servers in sphere of responsibility
  8. Serves as second tier support technician for satellite schools in building network cluster. Designs, installs, maintains and manages all remote print queues for these buildings
  9. In coordination with the building coordinator and district network manager supervises and maintains instructional networks, the library automation system and other systems as they come on-line
  10. In coordination with the building coordinator and district network manager supervises and maintains access to administrative networks, the student records system, the financial system and other systems as they come on-line
  11. Designs, creates, manages and maintains building web page, including access for ALL users in building. Identifies and resolves software error conditions as they arise through user fault or software incompatibility. Manages security and appropriateness of content.
  12. Responsible for creating, updating and maintaining static content on public Website and insuring the content meets standards for grammar, style, coding and uniformity. Will also coordinate scheduling, prioritizing and tracking of new site content projects, revisions and additions.
  13. Administers Web server software (IIS)
  14. Advanced configuration of workstations, perform data backups and restorations, troubleshoot configuration problems and establish client network connectivity
  15. In coordination with the district's Technology Staff Development Specialist and the building's Technology Coordinator, provides in-service and training to staff on a wide variety of microcomputer hardware and application software
  16. Assists in the evaluation, recommendation and acquisition of new technologies into the District K-12 program
  17. Provides telephone and on-site support to media specialists in elementary buildings
  18. Assist teachers with Internet access; facilitate other telecommunications access through network devices
  19. Coordinates and plans moves, adds and changes of all PC hardware
  20. Manages update of all workstation software by implementing image revisions on a regular basis
  21. Forecast the levels of use that the building IT systems will experience and create recommendations to reflect those predictions
  22. Spends summer hours in maintenance of building systems and other duties assigned by Network Manager
  23. Performs other tasks as assigned.
