I. ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVES:
Performs responsible office work involving judgment and initiative
while serving as an office assistant/registrar in the Special Education
office. Responsible for considerable student record keeping, and to
perform other related work as required.
II. POSITION CHARACTERISTICS:

Length of contract: 12 Month
III. POSITION RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to: Executive Director of Student Services,
Director of Special Education
Coordinates with: Special Education Department, district staff
Type of coordination: As directed by administrator or others
with coordination responsibilities
IV. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Desired training and experience: graduation from high school
including or supplemented by courses in secretarial skills; recent
responsible office work experience; experience/training in word
processing and/or computers.
- Special requirements of the position:
- Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
- Ability to make decisions within the scope of assigned
responsibility.
- Knowledge of special education laws and department
procedures.
- Ability to recognize and follow through on potential problems or
inconsistencies within prescribed procedures, and to assist in
developing new record keeping/reporting procedures.
- Ability to handle detailed record keeping involving attendance,
enrollments, progress of student evaluations. etc.
- Ability to operate word processing on personal computer, and to
operate a variety of office machines.
- Ability to edit, type and proof reports from unedited rough
copy.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working and public
relationships.
V. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves as office assistant/registrar to the Director of Special
Education.
- Coordinates, prepares, and maintains computerized class enrollments
of special education students for all district schools.
- Prepares, processes and checks all M-Team packets for completeness.
Types, mails and processes placements for all special education
students, and maintains confidential student files.
- Contacts schools, parents and transportation officials to arrange
starting dates and bus information for all newly identified special
education students.
- Prepares and processes quarterly reports/attendance of all EEN
students for district use.
- Coordinates, prepares and maintains data management system for
special education student accounting to Wisconsin Department of Public
Instruction, federal government and district superintendent's office.
- Requests files for all new EEN students and upon requests sends
student records to state and/or local agencies.
- Serves as receptionist for answering/directing calls or messages.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
